Polina Kozhevnikova, Organization Development & processes Intern at Tim

Polina, student of the Global Master Human Resources Management, explains how formative the experience at RBS was, and talks about the job opportunity found through the Career Centre.

Tell about yourself, what your pre, during, and post master’s degree journey has brought    you to where you are today.

Before my journey at RBS I was working as an international recruiter in the biggest IT corporation in CIS countries. However, I always felt the lack of hands on skills, and wanted to develop my analytical thinking. That’s exactly how I found out about RBS. I was afraid to take a gap year off work, so I wanted to start looking for a job after first 6 months at RBS. But, actually there was no need to rush and worry about it because I found a career opportunity at RBS.

What are the most important skills you acquired at RBS, which ones you will need to work on the most and which ones to focus on that are essential in the world of work today.

Definitely lots of soft skills, like coaching, international communication, public speaking skills. However, I also want to mention strategy course that was taught by Antonio Scialetti, it gave me a lot of insights and ability to analyze business processes critically.

Why did you decide to join RBS, what did the master’s program give you in terms of skills, competencies, meetings with companies and experiences?

First of all, thanks to RBS I found and internship in my field in the biggest Telecommunications company in Italy, TIM. Also, it definitely gave me lots of international contacts, so networking, I would say, and I should admit after the Career Fair at RBS I got very stress resistant to interviews, because during the career fair you represent yourself to different professionals at least 10 or 20 times. Which is barely possible to do during one day in life, so I definitely nailed this resistance.

What do you want to focus on in your work experience today, and what is your career goal?

Actually I’m thinking about the Learning&Development field in HR, so I think after my time at RBS I will try to look for something in this direction.

Give 3 pieces of advice to your fellow students to get like you a career opportunity

Definitely multinational approach in terms of languages, the more you speak the better. My second advice would be don’t be afraid of rejection and still continue looking for opportunities. My third advice will be to ask RBS professors about how to build the career, and which direction to look at, they are always willing to help and support, since they are working professionals they might also give you some reliable recommendations or contacts in companies.
