The event, led by Antonio Lucia and Francesca Viviani, heads of Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding, provided an important opportunity to gain deeper insight into a leading pharmaceutical company and explore the career opportunities available to young talents interested in work in pharmaceutical and building a career in the pharmaceutical sector.

An Opportunity to Discover the World of Chiesi Group

During the meeting, Antonio Lucia and Francesca Viviani shared the history and evolution of Chiesi, a company founded in Parma in 1935 by Giacomo Chiesi. They explained how, starting from a small pharmaceutical laboratory, the company grew into an international reality, with a strong presence in 31 countries and a network of over 7,000 employees worldwide.

The Chiesi representatives emphasized the crucial role of research and development in the company’s business model. With over 24% of its revenue dedicated to innovation, Chiesi ranks among the most research-focused pharmaceutical companies in Italy. This commitment translates into cutting-edge treatments for respiratory diseases, rare diseases, and other highly relevant medical conditions, aimed at improving patients’ lives and addressing unmet medical needs.

The company’s activities focus on three key therapeutic areas:

  • Air, dedicated to treating respiratory diseases such as asthma, COPD, neonatology, and cystic fibrosis.
  • Care, focused on solid organ transplants, cardiovascular diseases, and Consumer Healthcare products for self-medication.
  • Rare, specializing in rare and ultra-rare diseases, including congenital metabolic disorders, hematological and immunological rare diseases, and ophthalmological disorders.

These strategic areas reflect Chiesi Group’s commitment to providing advanced and personalized solutions for patients of all ages, combining scientific innovation with a strong focus on well-being. Thanks to this integrated model, the company is able to tackle global medical challenges with a global vision and a positive impact on public health.

Commitment to Sustainability and the Environment

A key topic discussed was Chiesi’s approach to sustainability. In 2019, the company achieved B Corp certification, proving its commitment to high social and environmental standards. Additionally, in 2018, Chiesi took a major step by adopting the Benefit Corporation legal status in Italy and the United States. This allows the company to balance profitability with shared value objectives, creating a positive impact on society and the environment.

Another important aspect highlighted was Chiesi’s dedication to fostering an inclusive work environment, where all employees, regardless of their background, can freely express their talent.

“What makes us unique is our goal to make a real impact on patient communities, the planet, and our people.”

This inclusive approach not only enhances employee well-being but also encourages innovation and creativity, which are essential for the company’s continuous growth and success.

Additionally, Chiesi has implemented the People Care Program, an initiative that promotes work-life balance, ensuring that employees can reach their full potential both professionally and personally.

Tips for Successfully Navigating the Selection Process

During the event, Antonio Lucia and Francesca Viviani shared valuable advice with Rome Business School students on how to successfully navigate a recruitment process and pursue work in pharmaceutical industry.

  1. CV Formatting
One of the key points emphasized was the importance of structuring a well-organized and professional CV. It should be elegant, complete, and well-structured, without neglecting technical skills and experiences. Including all relevant skills, technologies, and tools is essential to provide a clear picture of one’s capabilities.
  2. Preparing for the Phone Interview
The phone interview is often the first stage of the selection process. Being prepared to answer questions like “Why did you choose this company?” or “Why did you apply for this position?” is crucial, as these questions help assess a candidate’s motivation and interest in the role and company.
  3. Being Authentic
Another valuable tip was the importance of honesty during the interview. Answering transparently about strengths and areas for improvement shows self-awareness and a positive attitude towards professional growth. Acknowledging personal weaknesses is a sign of maturity and a willingness to improve.
  4.  Avoid Applying Randomly
Although it is understandable to eagerly seek job opportunities, it is essential to apply only for positions that align with one’s background and experience. Focusing on suitable roles significantly increases the chances of success in the long run.
  5. Preparing for the Interview
If selected for an in-person or video interview, thorough preparation on the company, its values, mission, and products is crucial. Showing genuine interest and knowledge about the company demonstrates seriousness and dedication, which will be highly appreciated.
  6. Asking Questions
Finally, candidates should not be afraid to ask questions during the interview. Inquiring about specific details demonstrates curiosity, interest, and critical thinking regarding the position and potential career within the company. Questions also provide an opportunity to clarify important aspects of the role, work environment, and company culture.
