Company visit: the International Fund for Agricultural Development - IFAD

Yesterday, our students spent a very interesting afternoon at the Headquarters of the International Fund for Agricultural Development—IFAD. During this company visit, they learned more about IFAD’s work, its mission and the activities that it does. Moreover, the students had a chance to interact with staff members from different divisions and with some of IFAD’s interns, and they learned more about job opportunities with IFAD.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development, a specialized agency of the United Nations, was one of the major outcomes of the 1974 World Food Conference. The conference was organized by the United Nations in response to the food crises of the early 1970s, when global food shortages were causing widespread famine and malnutrition, primarily in the Sahelian countries of Africa.

The massive economic, social and environmental challenges faced by today’s globalized world cannot be solved by individual governments alone. In its Strategic Framework 2016-2025, IFAD sets out how it will work over the coming decade in order to play a crucial role in the inclusive and sustainable transformation of rural areas. The paper articulates its contribution to the 2030 Agenda, including the larger role it will play in supporting countries to fulfil their priorities relative to the Agenda.

Our sincere gratitude goes to IFAD for making this day a success; we greatly appreciated their time and hospitality.
