International Master in International Business and Corporate Law Overview

Learn the importance and benefits of international law, especially when managing international business, given the significance of the interpretation of law according to the country and its impact on commercial activities.

The program is structured to first provide you core management skills, with the opportunity to dive into specialized areas during the second module, areas of focus are as follows; International Legal Frameworks and Systems, International Business, Corporate Law and Markets, and Global Corporate Compliance.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Acquire the necessary skills to frame international legal issues in the right regulatory context (e.g. from policies introduced by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) to the rules contained in the General Agreement for Trade and Tariffs (GATT) and Trade-Related Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS).
  2. Draft international transactions and file an international lawsuit before the competent Courts (including arbitration).
  3. Interpret the role of the members of the corporate bodies by identifying the duties and rights of all the subjects connected to them (shareholders, statutory auditors, Board of Directors, Supervisory Body).
  4. Set up a compliance policy (anti-corruption, environmental, antitrust, etc.).
  5. Develop smart contracts and take advantage of artificial intelligence tools.

Giuseppe Ferrara

A law graduate from the University of Salerno, Giuseppe Ferrara is a lawyer licensed to practice law before all Italian courts, up to the Supreme Court. He also teaches at several universities, sharing his experience and expertise in the legal field with new generations of professionals.

Until October 2022, he served as Head of Legal and Corporate Affairs Europe at the Enel Group, where he managed legal and corporate affairs in several European countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Russia, Romania, and Greece. Over the years he has held various positions within the Group, including Head of Intellectual Property, Innovation, Labor and Legal Policies, Head of the ICT Legal Department, Head of Litigation and General Counsel of E-distribuzione SpA.

He has been a member of several compliance bodies of Enel companies and served on the Board of Directors of Enel Russia PJSC and Enel Romania SA. He is currently a member of the Supervisory Board of Slovenske Elektrarne a.s. and head of the Legal Area of Latina Calcio 1932, a professional football club. He is the author of numerous publications in legal journals and has served as Editorial Coordinator of the Legal Review of Electricity (Ed. Cedam).

Gaia Marano Avvocato

Gaia Nina has a Law Degree and Master Degree in Tax Law from the University LUISS of Rome. She is a lawyer of the bar association of Rome since 2014. She had diverse working experience in international environments, and she worked for EBA Clearing in Paris from June till October 2019. She is working for a boutique Law Firm in Rome with a special focus in Labor & Employment Law. She has, by nature, an entrepreneurial spirit, and that is why she completed the MBA part-time program at Luiss Business School in June 2020. Gaia is an Italian native speaker. She is fluent in English, and she is constantly trying to improve her French. Having lived in different countries around the world, she knows the importance of networking. She joined the Professional Women Association (PWA) because she believes in the power of team working and because for her diversity is a major plus. As Programming Director, she wishes to affirm with PWA members & friends the fundamental role women play in this challenging era.

Marta Simoni Litigation and Regulatory Counsel at Google

An accomplished legal professional currently serving as Litigation and Regulatory Counsel for Google in Italy, Greece, and Malta. Prior to her role at Google, Marta spent nearly five years at Hogan Lovells as an Associate. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree in IP and Privacy from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and has completed executive education in Computer Science for Lawyers from Harvard Law School. Marta's expertise spans trademark law, patent law, M&A, competition, and digital rights & privacy. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Law from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, with additional studies as an Erasmus student at Mykolas Romeris University.

Francesca started her career as Senior Associate at D'Urso Munari Gatti, drafting contracts with local or international parties and focusing on commercial, corporate, telecommunications and administrative law with specific reference to public procurement. In 2005 she worked in Corporate Affairs for Enel, and then entered the team of Enel Green Power as Head of Corporate Affairs and then became Head of Corporate Governance M&A and Finance. Subsequently she was Head of Legal Affairs for Global Infrastructure & Network Business Line for Enel. Currently she holds the position of Head of Financial Legal Affairs at Enel.

Patricio Barbirotto
Patricio Barbirotto Università Ca'​ Foscari Venezia - Research Fellow

A research fellow in International Law at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and works in the consulting field International Law and International Affairs. He studied and worked in Italy, in the Czech Republic, in the PRC and in Russia and he fluently speaks 5 languages. Lecturer in "International Business Law" in the "Global Development and Entrepreneurship" master's degree course for the academic year 2021/2022; Lecturer in “Advanced International Law” in the master's degree course “Comparative International Relations” for the academic year 2022/2023. His main fields of interest and expertise are regional integration, international business law (with particular attention to the role of the non-State actors), West-East relations and the relation between international law and new technologies (namely the blockchain, the AI and in general all the issues related to cybersecurity). He is the author of a number of scientific publications concerning his fields of expertise, published both in Italy and abroad, and he has been member of the venetian editorial board of ‘Diritto del commercio internazionale’ (Italian A-Class scientific journal) since 2021. He holds a Master degree in International Relations from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and a PhD in “Law, Market and Person” (International Law) from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice​

Roberto is a dual qualified business lawyer: he has been admitted both to the bars of Rome and New York. With a Master in Comparative Law, he starts his career as an Associate at PAGANI & PARTNERS LLP. He was then In-House Counsel for the ATECAP, where he drafted construction contracts and step clauses for sustainability purposes. Later he was an Associate at Legance and a Juridicial Intern at the Supreme Court of New York. Subsequently he worked as Research and Legal Assistant at the Institute for International Commercial Law and was an Associate at Collier, Halpern, Newberg, Nolletti & Bock LLP. In 2013 he became Adjunct Professor of International Commercial Law at LUMSA and at the same time he became Partner at 3D Legal – DANDRIA Legal Studio. Currently he is Adjunct Professor of American Business Law at The American University of Rome and Managing Partner at Pirozzilex. His area of practice cover domestic and international commercial arbitration, as well as international commercial contracts (CSIG), antitrust and regulatory matters.

Paul Greven
Paul Greven Senior Director / Head of Legal at JLL

Paul Greven is a 20+PQE lawyer admitted as a solicitor in: i) Ontario, Canada ii) England and Wales (non practicing) and iii) the Cayman Islands. ​His principal areas of practice include corporate/commercial law, hotels, mixed use real estate development, commercial leasing and mergers & acquisitions. Paul also has considerable experience advising on employment/HR, procurement (RFPs), IP, compliance and corporate social responsibility matters.​ Has extensively published and spoken on behalf of the UN with respect to the topics of anti-corruption and best practices for general counsel to consider when seeking to drive the sustainability agenda with their respective board of directors.
