Overview
For a long time, marketing and ethics have been seen – often with good reason – as being antonymous terms. In fact, marketing activities have been tainted by their low adherence to, if not outright violation of, the principles of fairness, transparency and respect of consumer rights and of those of society as a whole. Misleading or socially and environmentally damaging trade practices have therefore resulted in the birth of consumer protection and environmentalist movements that fight to safeguard the right of consumers and the general public. In recent years, an ever increasing awareness of the need of an ethical approach to marketing and, more generally, to business has been circulating. That is, an approach aimed at conciliating market and profit requirements with full public, consumer, environmental and social wellbeing, with an eye on the protection of future generations. The Rome Business School’s Sustainable Marketing, Ethics and Social Responsibility course tackles these subjects to provide managers with a new, modern and socially responsible perspective on how to do marketing.
