After working for years as an archaeologist, I moved to the United States where I had the opportunity to work as a program manager in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in a large cancer center. Back in Italy, I decided to enroll in the Executive Master's in Human Resource Management at RBS, which I am currently attending, to hone the HR skills acquired during my experience abroad and expand my network. Thanks to RBS, I had the opportunity to meet with/representatives from a variety of companies, including Doctors Without Borders with whom I am currently working. Fundamental in the world of work are active listening skills, flexibility and proactivity. Thanks to my master's degree at RBS, I acquired more skills in HR but not only, which I am putting to use in my current work experience.

At a certain point in my personal and professional life I decide to change direction and take a new path thus enrolling in a Master's program in HR; a choice made with doubts and perplexity about my professional relocation at my age in a field where I had no experience. My idea was geared toward a Master's degree that would give me theoretical tools but above all would give me the opportunity to gain practical work experience, which was crucial for me. It is thus that by evaluating various factors and the presence of the career service, my choice fell on the Rome Business School. Right away, I start attending in-person classes to live this experience 100%, both from a professional point of view and from a human relations point of view. It is in fact a path that on both sides is enriching me.

After just 3 months of classes I have already obtained the carrier change I wanted. Rome Business School immediately struck me for its Career Service Department, it first of all helped me to clarify my talents, my potential and my motivational drives, and then it also provided me with the useful tools to capitalize on my skills. In particular, there was a meeting with Employer Branding experts and a test prepared by Manpower Italia that helped me understand which are my main talents and abilities. So I discovered that I could put versatility and “drive for innovation” into play in new dynamic professional challenges. I also realized that I have to have courage and activate my network to create new opportunities by myself.

I'm Maurizio Strano, a student of the Rome Business School, and a few days ago I started as HR at Gi Group. I am thrilled since my goal in the medium term was to gain professional experience at a multinational employment agency. RBS has provided me with the skills and abilities necessary to help me achieve my goals. I tell my colleagues in the master that with tenacity, perseverance, passion and investing in themselves, anyone can achieve their goals, large or small, just as happened to me!

The Master has helped me both from a theoretical and a practical point of view thanks to the various jobs carried out during the lessons. Moreover, thanks to the master's programme, I had the opportunity to get to know colleagues from all over the world, creating dense networks of connections both on a personal and working level. “My advices for my colleagues? Be curious, do not overlook what seems less important. Never give up in the face of difficulties. Always try to give and get the best even in what seems impossible.

I feel very happy to have achieved my first work experience in Italy, in one of the main hotel chains in the world, my first month of internship at the Hotel Sheraton Parco de Medici has allowed me to see the day-to-day management of the food and beverage area of the hotel. In the competitive world in which we live the most important thing today are our soft skills and it is where RBS trains us, carrying out many classes and workshops. The advice I can give to my colleagues is to be persevering in the search for a job opportunity, learn Italian and follow all the recommendations that CS gives us, I want to thank in a special way Federica Albanese who was always there guiding me from how to do the CV to how to pass the interviews.

I found in this school the right Business School where to study in order to get rid of my organizational concerns because the master classes were held in the evening, therefore after my working day. It was a great personal challenge, difficult and challenging, but today I am satisfied. Towards the end of the master's program, I decided to continue my career in the data world, but with a hybrid profile. Recently, I obtained at BORSA ITALIANA S.P.A of EURONEXT GROUP the position of Associate Junior Data Scientist, entering as Technical Analyst. They put their trust in me and I will do everything to achieve every single goal that will be given to me, it is a great satisfaction, but also the beginning of a new life. In addition to technical-managerial knowledge, the master gave me a lot of soft skills, which is a fundamental aspect in the working world. By participating in meetings with important companies and market leaders in the field of Data Technology and Artificial Intelligence like Oracle, Microsoft, I had the opportunity to touch and get insights on new technologies and their vision for the future.

My decision to apply for this Master’s Degree was based on my aspiration to make a career change after I had lost my previous assignment as Front Office Manager at the InterContinental Shanghai NECC in June 2020 due to the disruptions brought by the Covid19 Pandemic. The Rome Business School offered me the right stage to challenge myself to acquire new competences while being steadily stimulated by excellent professors who shared both academic and practical knowledge. It has been a beautiful journey through which I also had the opportunity to meet students from all around the world, mainly already holding professional roles in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management field, creating the right conditions for inspiring and culturally enriching internal debates. I had immediately started interacting with the Career Service department that supported me in evaluating my CV and gave me the right tips to make myself noticeable in the market. I have recently taken over a position as Logistics Specialist at Bridgestone EMIA where I found an incredible team and excellent leaders that I am sure will give me continued motivation to keep on learning and improving while delivering the expected results. If there is one piece of advice I would give to any young professional looking at boosting their careers is to take one of the Master’s Degrees at Rome Business School aiming at widening their horizons and working opportunities.

What pushed me to join RBS was curiosity and wanting to find a new stimulus in an environment that until before I only admired externally, such as the fashion world. At first I was skeptical, as happens on the first day of school, I did not know what to expect but I knew it was a chance to be taken at all costs. Today I can say that the vision from the beginning of the master's program has been fully achieved and even far exceeded. If I look back the path was certainly challenging, but it was worth it to have both technical and personal background that I would not have had otherwise. The motto "Better managers for a better world" is true and is fueled by all the experiences that, at the end of the journey, point to how the goal is to improve their students and help them achieve their goals. An added value is definitely given by the service offered by the Career Services Department, the numerous meetings with national and international companies or even the workshop labs, immediately hint at the effectiveness of the business school's communication channels, numerous companies are looking for talent for internal turnover, and the collaboration with RBS allows all students to find possibilities that fit their characteristics and needs perfectly.

One of the most important competencies that I have acquired during my experience in RBS is to be able to really discover what there is behind the theory, to truly comprehend how business work, from real Managers and professionals who really love their work, are passionate and want to transmit their passion to the new generations. I believe that today is key to know very well the market and the sector in which we operate, the competitors, to be able to offer a unique and unmatched experience to our clients. I decided to join the RBS family because already from the start I knew it would have opened me many doors to the job market. Giving me the opportunity to participate in meetings with companies operating all over the world, organizing fairs with HR representatives that could have been interested in my profile, etc. I currently work at Disneyland Paris, a large company where I will continue to grow both personally and professionally. My professional objective now is to apply my knowledge grow in my career.

I think that Rome Business School works best for those who have an entrepreneurial spirit. I for instance stood my chances with what the school offers and I am getting a whole lot back. Thanks to RBS I got a scholarship for executive women in business, which significantly lowered my tuition fee, and halfway through my Master in Agribusiness Management I found an internship as a project manager for a sustainability business tool. The company is Impakter, and I got to know them through a RBS company visit. I immediately loved the project and I asked for an opportunity to work with them. There is also a chance that this internship will turn into a full time job, if more funds come in. So my work at Impakter is an investment toward successful funding and toward creating my dream job with them. And this is what I mean with having an entrepreneurial spirit: don´t sit back and wait for things to fall on your lap. Show passion and initiative, use the RBS network. Only then it really pays back.

I came to RBS because, after having ranged a lot, I had definitely figured out which industry to work in but did not have the right means to establish myself. Even more simply, I had learned the strategy but lacked the tools: I wanted to consolidate what I had studied but also study what I had not known. And, in any case, I wanted to dive into the market from its internal network. The Master's program answered my questions and at the same time asked me new ones, yet those very ones allowed me to make a decisive and conscious leap into my new present. The meetings with companies not only put me back in the game, literally out of my comfort zone, but also pushed me to know my limits and strengths. And not least, it is thanks to the Career Fair that I found my new job, playing a card that in another condition perhaps would not have been so lucky.

Throughout the experience in the school, following classes and taking part to many company meetings, I realized how biased I was at the beginning. Each class gave me something different but the most important thing I learned was that when you are not able to see your skills and competences, you might have a better look inside you. In addition, thanks to many role- plays activities we did in class, I was able to improve my public speaking and communication skills and team work abilities. I also explored different sectors within the world of HRM, learned how to develop a business plan, set a gap analysis, and define a marketing and employer branding strategy. Thanks to the knowledge acquired, I started defining a portfolio of core topics I am already exploiting and I will keep exploiting as future HR professional. One year after my experience, having also joined the world of work, I should admit I still need to work hard on aspects such as time management, work detachment, and schedule prioritization.Thanks to Rome Business School, I also had the opportunity to join interesting company meetings hosting human resources professionals working across different types of industries. Apart for the knowledge and expertise they were sharing, what I appreciated the most was the Q&A moment at the end of the sessions in which I was able to interact with them directly and later get connected on LinkedIn.

My current path teaches me that it is not too late to change course even when you have already started a different kind of path. What makes the difference are: the desire for revenge, determination and looking straight towards the final goal. The lesson I learned? Do not allow yourself to be influenced by the opinions of others, by the fear of not succeeding and by the first difficulties you encounter.
