Mattia Corbetta

I have been working at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development in the field of innovation policies since May 2012, formerly as a member of the Minister’s Technical Secretariat, now as member of the DG for Industrial Policy, Competitiveness and SMEs. My main activities encompass the design, implementation, dissemination and monitoring of a vast range of public policies relating to innovation, such as:
– the laws on innovative startups and SMEs, aimed at supporting the creation and the scale-up of high-tech companies in all industries;
– the Italia Startup Visa and Italia Startup Hub programs, the goal of which is to support the attraction and ritention of innovative entrepreneurs from all over the world;
– the Contamination Lab program, which aims to foster an interdisciplinary educational approach and the spread of an entrepreneurial culture within Italian universities.

As regards my academic background, I studied International and Diplomatic Relation in Gorizia (2006). I graduated with honors in Political Science, International Relations at LUISS Guido Carli (Rome). I achieved a postgraduate master’s degree in Corporate Internationalization in the Arab World at the University for Foreigners of Perugia and subsequently gained a master’s degree in Contemporary History at the University of Bologna. I am currently attending a PhD in economics at the University of Leipzig, in Germany.

In the past, I collaborated with Pagella Politica, an Italian factchecking platform, and gained professional experience at the United Nations Volunteers program in Germany, at the Italian Chambers of Commerce in Morocco and Switzerland and at the Italian Embassy in Syria.

I worked in English, French, German, Spanish and Arabic.
